- Organize cross-regional and inter-departmental joint monitoring and forecasting of severe catastrophic weather in this administrative area, propose meteorological disaster defense measures in a timely manner, evaluate major meteorological disasters, and provide decision-making basis for the people's government at this level to organize defense against meteorological disasters ; Manage the issuance of professional meteorological forecasts such as public meteorological forecasts, catastrophic weather warnings, and agricultural meteorological forecasts, urban environmental meteorological forecasts, and fire danger meteorological grade forecasts within the administrative area.
- Formulate the weather modification operation plan, and under the leadership and coordination of the people's government at this level, manage, guide and organize the implementation of weather modification operations; organize and manage the lightning disaster prevention work, together with relevant departments, guide the buildings and structures that may be attacked And lightning protection devices installed in other facilities.
- Responsible for making recommendations to the people's government at the same level and relevant departments at the same level on the use, protection of climate resources, and promotion and application of climate resource zoning; organize the climate feasibility demonstration of climate resource development and utilization projects.
- Organize publicity and education on the meteorological legal system, be responsible for supervising the implementation of relevant meteorological regulations, punish those who violate the relevant provisions of the "Meteorological Law of the People's Republic of China" according to law, and undertake relevant administrative reconsideration and administrative litigation.
- Unified leadership and management of meteorological departments' planning and finance, organization establishment, personnel and labor, scientific research and training, and business construction in the administrative region; together with the deputy provincial capital cities and people's governments at the prefecture level, the meteorological agencies under their jurisdiction implement departments. Dominate the dual management; work with local party committees and people's governments to do spiritual civilization construction and ideological and political work in local meteorological departments.
- Responsible for the coordination and technical communication of the inter-provincial joint defense, meteorological business, scientific research and development of regional severe weather in Wuhan.
